Johan Fransson (born February 18 1984) is an Swedish professional hockey player. He is currently playing for Leksands IF in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), in which he is a defenseman. He also plays for leagues from Finland, Switzerland, and Russia. Though he was selected and traded as a potential player within the NHL three times, he’s never played in a regular season NHL game.
Fransson was back in Lulea in the 2010 season. He was met with some criticism of his previous performance. However, by the middle of December the player had made his career-high in scores and goals. By the end his season, Fransson played 54 gamesand scored the score of 30 scores and scoring 11. Fransson was given a contract for five years to be a part of Lulea however, shortly thereafter he opted to use the clause in his contract to sign a contract with HC Dinamo Minsk of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) in Russia Then, a couple of weeks after, Fransson had signed his second contract in this offseason for the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL).
On August 3, 2011, he rejoined Luleå HF, where he stayed until the remainder of the 2013-14 season. He then headed to Switzerland, signing with the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers of the top-flight National League A (NLA) for 2014-15, before moving on to fellow NLA team Genève-Servette HC for 2015–16. His tenure with Geneva ended at the conclusion of the 2019 playoffs. Fransson played 154 regular season games with Geneva, putting up 74 points, and 25 playoffs games (9 points) over 4 seasons.
As a free agent, Fransson returned to his homeland and the SHL, agreeing to a four-year contract with newly promoted Leksands IF on April 29, 2019.
In 2007 Fransson was transferred in 2007 to Linkopings HC for Oscar Ackestrom. While he played only 8 regular-season games and fifteen playoff games, without scoring any points the team he was drafted into made it to the Swedish Championship finals, where they fell against Modo Hockey. In 2007-08, He played in 48 games scoring a record-breaking fifteen goals and 14 points. The Swedish national also played his first game with Tre Kronor. Fransson contributed to Linkoping make it to in the Swedish Championship finals for the second time in a row but the team lost an 2-0 lead in the series, and then lost to HV71 4-4. For the 2008-09 campaign, Fransson was not able to keep his winning streak going and was let go in January and joined HC Lugano of the Swiss National League A in which the player had two points and scored 5 points over seven regular matches as well as 2 goals from four playoff matches.

Fransson played in bandy in Kalix and his team was crowned his team the Swedish Championship for the 13 year olds in 1998. He attributes his skill as a skater to his background in bandy. In the 2000-01 hockey season, Fransson represented Norrbotten at the television-pucken competition and also played for Kalix HF in Division 1 (Sweden’s third highest grade). For the season 2001-02, Fransson was a player in the J20 SuperElit league for Lulea HF in the J20 SuperElit junior hockey league.
In 2002-03, Fransson had his Elitserien debut with Lulea HF, but only took part in three games due to injuries to his groin. In 2003-04 Fransson was a part of the Lulea team, being nominated to be the Elitserien rookie of the year. In his first playoff game Fransson was hit by a head injury after being examined by Farjestads’ BK’s Peter Nordstrom. He was able to return for one game, however, the side was debarred from playoffs. He was acknowledged as having an exciting future. The 2004-05 season was not the same as his debut year. In the next season, he struggled and the team didn’t renew his contract. He and co- Lulea teammates Karl Fabricius signed with Frolunda HC. The 2006-07 season started with a positive attitude despite the team’s struggles. Following the time that Per Backman replaced Stephan Lundh as coach, Fransson saw less ice time and was assigned to Assat as a player in the SM-liiga league of Finland.
On October 13, 2010, Fransson was loaned by the Kings to SKA St. Petersburg in Russia. where he played the rest of the 2010–11 season.
