Joel McIver (born 10 February 1971) is an British author from Britain. His most well-known work is his bestseller Justice for All: The Truth About Metallica, first released in 2004 and has been available in nine languages ever since. McIver’s other work includes biography of Black Sabbath, Slayer, Thunder, Ice Cube and Queens of the Stone Age. McIver’s writing is featured in magazines and newspapers like The Guardian, the Daily Telegraph and Classic Rock, and he has appeared on BBC as well as commercial radio and television.

In 2012 and since then, McIver has been the editor of Bass Guitar magazine; and since 2018, he has also been the editor for Bass Player after the two publications were merged.

Also in 2018, McIver co-hosted a podcast called Dead Rock Stars with fellow writer Mick Wall. In June that year, the Guardian named Dead Rock Stars their podcast of the week.

The book includes a foreword by Bowie’s producer and friend Tony Visconti.
