Joseph William Sacco (born February 4 1969) is an American retired National Hockey League player and currently an assistant coach for the Boston Bruins. Sacco’s younger brother David Sacco also played in the NHL.

In June of 2009 just a few days after Avalanche director of hockey Tony Granato was fired, Sacco was promoted, and later named the manager of the Colorado Avalanche for the 2009-10 season. This was a position the former great Avs player Patrick Roy turned down days before. After being predicted to finish fifteenth place on the Western Conference by most hockey experts, Sacco coached the Avalanche through in the Stanley Cup Playoffs posting a record of 43-30-9 during his first year as a coach within the NHL. The team was eliminated losing in the opening round following six games against the San Jose Sharks. On April 28th, 2010, Sacco was announced as one of the finalists in the Jack Adams Award for NHL coach of the year, along with Dave Tippett of the Phoenix Coyotes and Barry Trotz of the Nashville Predators.

Following the 2012–13 season, his fourth year at the helm, finishing last in the Western Conference and out of the playoffs for a third consecutive year, Sacco was relieved of his duties on April 28, 2013. It brought an end to his eight-year association with the Avalanche.

On July 24, 2014, the Boston Bruins hired Sacco as their assistant coach.

The 2005-06 campaign and two years after retiring from the sport, Sacco was hired as an assistant coach with the Lowell Lock Monsters, affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche. The 7th of May, 2007, following 2 years of being an assistant coach, Sacco was appointed head coach of Colorado Avalanche’s brand new AHL franchise called The Lake Erie Monsters. Sacco later coached the Monsters for the following two seasons, and despite having a somewhat disappointing season even with a limited budget, was acknowledged for his contribution to the development of young players into the NHL.
