Joe Burgess (born 14 October 1994) is an English professional footballer in the rugby league who is a winger with the Wigan Warriors in the Betfred Super League and England at international level.

In the first week of the 2015 season, Burgess confirmed he would be headed back to Australia for 2016 in order to take part as a player in the National Rugby League with the Sydney Roosters on a three-year contract. In his first game in the National Rugby League, the Roosters scored both Roosters attempts in their loss of 42-10 against the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

In 2015, Burgess earned a place in the Super League Dream Team, and another call-up to the England squad for their test series against New Zealand. Burgess made his début for England in a test match, before the series, against France which saw Burgess score a try in England’s win over their opponents.

In June 2016 it was announced that Burgess had completed a mid season loan to the Rabbitohs for the remainder of the 2016 season. Burgess impressed while at the Rabbitohs scoring 5 tries in 9 appearances. Despite interest from the Rabbitohs to stay in Australia he decided his future lay at Wigan.

In 2014, he made himself one of the Wigan Warriors’ first choice winger, partly due to the absence of Josh Charnley. The reason he was so astonished by being requested to train with the team from the beginning of the season, the player made an offensive comment via call to head manager Shaun Wane, believing it to be a joke. On April 4, 2014, Burgess scored four tries in the 52-8 win against Dewsbury Rams. Burgess experienced a sensational debut season with Wigan Warriors with 22 scores (17 Super League, 4 Challenge Cup, 1 World Club Challenge) from 24 games. He also got his first experience of Super League playoff action with three tries in the three Wigan playoff matches. The first time he scored a length of the field attempt in the 57-4 week one destruction against the Huddersfield Giants on 18 September 2014 after he caught the ball high close to the line of his own goal and ran to the opposing goal and scored. Then , on the 3rd October 2014, he scored the winning goal in the final minutes of the semi-final in the home game against Warrington Wolves to break a 12-12 tie , and take Wigan through into finals in 2014’s Super League Grand Final with the score of 16-12. Then , in the Grand Final on 11 October 2014 against arch rivals St Helens he scored a attempt just before half-time to beat Wigan by 6-2, in spite of the Warriors losing 12 men two minutes before the match began, but Saints were able to win the match by a score of 14-6 in the final in the Old Trafford stadium.
