In the summer of 2015, Kantor and David Streitfeld published “Inside Amazon”, a 6,000 word article about the company’s methods of managing white-collar employees. The article drew a response from Jeff Bezos, broke the newspaper’s all-time record for reader comments, prompted veterans of the secretive company to come forward about their experiences online, and sparked a national debate about fairness and productivity in the technological workplace. The article received mixed reviews and contained multiple inaccuracies, such as Amazon not reimbursing travel, “indoctrination” during New Hire Orientation (NHO) and other unverified claims, detailed in a viral response by an Amazon employee: An Amazonian’s response to “Inside Amazon: Wrestling Big Ideas in a Bruising Workplace”. Margaret Sullivan, New York Times’ Public Editor, also publicly disagreed with some of the statements and claims made by Mrs. Kantor. The New York Times article was also publicly disputed by Jay Carney, former Obama White House press secretary and Senior Vice-President for Global Corporate Affairs in an article titled “What The New York Times Didn’t Tell You”.

Born and raised by an Jewish household in New York City, Kantor relocated from there to Holmdel Township, New Jersey where she attended Holmdel High School.
