He was an elected Member of Dublin City Council from 2009 until 2016. He did not run as the candidate in the Irish party Fianna Fail during the general election of 2007 within Dublin South-East. O’Callaghan has been a practicing Irish barrister as well as a senior council member, and the sister of his Miriam is a radio broadcaster.
