Jan Poortvliet, Dutch pronunciation: [‘jan’po.flit]; born 21 September 1956) is an ex-professional footballer from the Netherlands who played as a left back. He was a member of the Dutch national team at the 1978 FIFA World Cup. He was a PSV Eindhoven player in the late 1970s and mid- to late 1970s, which were his greatest club achievements. He retired in the 1990s and became a football manager for clubs such as Stormvogels Telstar, RBC Roosendaal, and FC Den Bosch.

He was appointed as the new Telstar head coach in June 2010. His salary will be paid by AZ, his parent club. Poortvliet, who had been a poor coach at Velsen-based FC Den Bosch for two seasons, announced that he would be returning to the club from July 2012.

After conceding at the final, Southampton lost 2-1 against Cardiff in his first game as manager. Poortvliet won his first victory as Southampton manager three days later, defeating Exeter City 3-1 in League Cup’s first round. David McGoldrick’s goal was the reason for his first league victory at Derby County on 23 August. Poortvliet resigned from the Club after a streak of only one win in 14 home matches. Mark Wotte was appointed as reserve coach.

Poortvliet, the new manager of Eerste Divisie Club FC Eindhoven was announced on 15 June 2009. His team qualified for the promotion/relegation tournament of Eredivisie and Eerste Divisie.
