In July 2007, Kors presented his testimony before the committee on veterans’ affairs of the house that was formed to look into his testimony. His testimony resulted in the introduction of several legislations in Congress which included a new law on military discharges, which was signed in January 2008 by president Bush in January 2008.
Kors gained national recognition in 2007 due to his work to expose the veteran’s benefits fraud. The three-part series he wrote about showed the way that military doctors have been deliberately not diagnosing wounded soldiers in Iraq and labeling them as mentally ill in order to refuse them medical treatment as well as disability compensation.
Kors is from Walnut Creek, California, where he attended Las Lomas High School. He has a master’s degree from the Columbia School of Journalism in New York and graduated magna cum laude from Amherst College. In May 2016, Kors earned a law degree from Vanderbilt Law School in Nashville, Tennessee.
