Hrdina signed a six month contract with HV71, the elite Swedish club in Elitserien, on August 28, 2006. Due to Swedish tax laws, Hrdina joined the club October 18, 2006. He had previously played for HIFK in Finland’s SM-liiga during the 2006-07 season. He extended his contract for two more years after the season.

Hrdina was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1995 NHL Entry Draft, in the 5th round, 128th overall.
The Pittsburgh Penguins traded Francois Leroux and Hrdina to the Phoenix Coyotes in March 2003 for Ramzi Abid and Dan Focht. He was traded to the Phoenix Coyotes for Michael Rupp in March 2004 by the New Jersey Devils.
Hrdina played three games with Swedish Elitserien club HV71 during the 2008–09 season. Because of an ongoing hip problem, Hrdina returned to the United States to have surgery.
