From 1976 to 1980, Schuerman was a student at Saint Francis de Sales Seminary College. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. After completing his first year of theology at Saint Francis de Sales Seminary, Schuerman was chosen to study theology at the University of Innsbruck in Austria. Schuerman was ordained to priesthood on May 17, 1986. From 1986 to 1992, his first assignment was as Associate Pastor at St. Anthony Parish in Milwaukee. From 1992 to 1996, he was assigned to missionary work at La Sagrada Familia in the Dominican Republic Archdiocese.
Schuerman received a doctorate of ministry in August 1996 from Catholic Theological Union. He also earned a special graduate degree in spirituality at Catholic Theological Union. From 1997 to 2009, he was a spiritual director and faculty member at Saint Francis de Sales Seminary. He was appointed administrator of St. Andrew Parish in Delavan in 2009 and became Pastor at St. Andrew the following year. He was also the pastor of St. Patrick Parish in Elkhorn from 2011 to 2012. He was appointed Pastor of St. Francis de Sales Parish in Lake Geneva in 2012. Administrator of Holy Cross Parish in Bristol. He was also an adjunct spiritual director at Saint Francis de Sales Seminary, continuing his role in priest training.
Born in Burlington to Robert and Elizabeth Schuerman, he grew up in Lyons, was a member of St. Joseph Parish, and attended St. Joseph’s Grade School, Burlington Jr. High School, and Burlington High School. Schuerman has four siblings, Virginia (Sam) Kalaveshi, Robert (Jean Ann) Schuerman, Jr., Theresa Schuerman (Mark Leemkuil) and David Schuerman.
