Houda Nonoo is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on September 7, 1964 in Bahrain. Nonoo was the son of a family that had been Jewish business entrepreneurs and had roots in Iraq. Ibrahim, Nonoo’s grandfather, left Baghdad 1888 to start a financial company in Bahrain.
In November 2013, her role was ended by Abdullah bin Mohammad Bin Rashed Al Khalifa who had been the military attache to Bahrain in Washington.

Houda Ebrahim Nooo (Arabic : hda zr, nwnw; born 7th September 1964) was the Bahraini Ambassador to America from 2008 to 2013. The Foreign Affairs Minister Khaled Al-Khalifa appointed her to this position. Nonoo is the third Jew to be made ambassador to Bahrain. Nonoo is also the first Jewish ambassador to any Middle Eastern Arab country and the first female ambassador from Bahrain to the United States.
Before her 2005 appointment to the Majlis al-shura, she co-founded and presided over the Bahrain Human Rights Watch Society. This society promotes women’s rights in Bahrain. After being appointed by King Hamad ibn Isa Al Khalifah, she served as a member for three years of the Shura Council (40-member parliament). Houda, part of the small Jewish community in Bahrain, was the reason her appointment became a major news story. According to reports, the Jewish community in Bahrain is made up of only 37 people. Most of them are descendants of Iraqi and Iranian immigrants. Nonoo isn’t the first member of her family to become a Bahraini politician or a member of the Jewish community. Abraham Nonoo, her grandfather, was elected to the Manama Municipality in 1934. Ebrahim Daoud Nooo, a cousin was elected to parliament in 2000. The Nonoo family, originally from Iraq, moved to Bahrain more than a century ago.
