Curtis is a sailors. She began participating in the sport at eight years old, following having watched her parents expose her to it from the time she was just a child. She is coach by Euan McNicol since 2010. From 2008 until the year 2010, she was guided through Dayne Sharpe. Her main training site is Sydney and she has a second training facility in Weymouth. She is an active part of the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club. She holds an award of a sailing scholarship by the Australian Institute of Sport and New South Wales Institute of Sport. Her debut for the national team was made at the Harken International Match Racing Regatta when she was just 15 years old. Both in 2007 as well as 2008 she raced at the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. She was named the in 2010.
