Heath Martin Schroyer, a former American college basketball coach and currently the McNeese state head coach, was born March 15, 1972. His previous stops as a head coach include Portland State University (2002-05), University of Wyoming, 2007-11 and University of Tennessee-Martin (2014-16).

Schroyer was only 22 years old at the time of his hire. His first team at Portland State had won five games. Schroyer led the Vikings’ to a 19-9 record in his final season, which included an 11-3 conference record as well as a Big Sky Conference title. Schroyer returned to Cleveland after the season as associate head coach at Fresno State University.

On March 15, 2018, Schroyer was named the head men’s basketball coach at McNeese State, replacing Dave Simmons.

After starting the University of Wyoming with an 8-15 record, 1-8 in Mountain West Conference play, and a 49-68 record over four years, Schroyer was fired as head coach. He threatened to quit coaching if he wasn’t given a contract extension. This was the final decision about his status at Wyoming. Dave Rice, the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels basketball coach, announced in May 2011 that Schroyer had been hired as an assistant.

Schroyer was born in Walkersville (Maryland) and played high school basketball for Morgan Wootten, the legendary head coach at DeMatha Christian High School. After high school, he was an All-Conference basketball player at Kings River Community College, before transferring to Armstrong Atlantic State University in 1995, where he received a degree with liberal studies.

After graduating, Schroyer was an assistant at Kings River for one year. He then worked as an assistant at Fresno City College under Steve Cleveland. Schroyer was an assistant coach at Brigham Young University for four seasons after Cleveland took over as coach in 1997. After serving as an assistant coach at the University of Wyoming in 2001-02, he was hired to be the head coach of Portland State University.

Schroyer returned to head coaching when he accepted the position at the University of Tennessee at Martin on March 20, 2014. He stayed with the Skyhawks for two seasons, amassing a 41-28 record before leaving to take an assistant coaching position at North Carolina State under Mark Gottfried. The following season, Schroyer returned to BYU for his second stint as an assistant coach, joining Dave Rose’s staff.
