However, she missed qualifying in the heats stage. In a personal record run of 2:00.63, she won an unexpected victory over Hasna Benhassi, her compatriot in the outdoor season. She ran the Golden Gala in Rome a few days later and won a significant victory against World Championship medallists Janeth Jepkosgei, and Jenny Meadows. At the Diamond League meeting she won comfortably in 1:58.40, improving her time by more than two seconds and scoring her first major victory of her career.

Hachlaf saw significant improvements in 2009’s season. Hachlaf set a new record of 2:00.91 to win the silver medal at 2009 Mediterranean Games. Hachlaf was born and raised in Khenifra. She began her international career when she was just fourteen years old, competing in 800m at the 2003 World Youth Championships of Athletics. She reached the semi-finals, but was unable to finish the race. She was able to achieve greater success at 2004 World Junior Championships. Her personal best time of 2:06.44 in heats saw her reach the event final and finish ninth. She was 31st in the junior category at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships 2005. She won her heat at the 2005 World Youth Championships and ran a season-best 2:06.91 to finish second in the semi-final behind Teresa Kwamboka. In the final, she was not able to replicate this feat and finished fourth with a time 2:08.61. She competed in the 2005 Jeux de la Francophonie and won a bronze medal for the 4x400m relay.

This mark made her the third-fastest junior woman that year. At the 2007 African Junior Championships in Athletics she won two medals. She took the silver in 800m and bronze in 1500m. Hachlaf’s 2008 highlight was her fourth-place finish in the 2008 African Championships. She finished with a time of 2 minutes 4.74 behind Agnes Samaria.

She served a 4-year competition ban, as a result of abnormalities in her biological passport, lasting from 14 October 2013 to 18 December 2017. This made her the second athlete in her family to receive a doping ban, as her brother Abdelkader Hachlaf was banned for doping in 2004.
