Guska was appointed trainer for the United Arab Emirates boxing team at the 2004 Pan Arab Games, Algeria. Ali Khalfan Ali, an Emirati fighter, won the bronze medal in featherweight. He became the first Emirati to win a medal at an international multi-sports event.
1993 Guska was appointed coach of the newly formed Bosnia and Herzegovina national boxing team. Almedin Fetahovic of BK Zeljeznicar won the gold medal at light middleweight at the Mediterranean Games 1993 in France. This was the first time an independent Bosnia and Herzegovina had won a gold medal at a major multi-sport event.

In 1974, he began his amateur boxing career at BK Partizan Sarajevo. An arm injury ended his boxing career in 1980. He was later named trainer of BK Zeljeznicar one year later.
Guska was also the coach of the Bosnian national boxing team during its participation in the 1993 European Amateur Boxing Championships, Bursa. In Preliminaries, Edin Bajric lost to Danny Williams (United Kingdom) in heavyweight. 2001, he was appointed Head coach of the Bosnian youth team. Aldin Avdic won the bronze medal at superheavyweight in 2001 European youth championships. This was Bosnia and Herzegovina’s first European amateur boxing championships medal. Hamid Guska, the Head coach for all Bosnian national boxing teams (schoolboys/cadets, seniors) was appointed one year later.
In August 2009 he was succeeded by Anton Josipović as Head coach of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Hamid Guska continued his work as director in an elementary school in Hrasnica, Ilidža.
