Gwendal Peizerat is one of the most popular and richest Figure Skater who was born on April 21, 1972 in Bron, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France. Gwendal, born 21 April 1972, is a French ex-competitive ice dancer. He is also the 2002 Olympic champion, 1998 Olympic bronze medalist and 2000 World champion. He is also a six-time French national champ.

Peizerat was a Chevalier of France’s National Order of Merit in 1998 and a Chevalier of France’s Legion of Honour 2003. He has also choreographed for other skaters.

In 2001, Anissina and Peizerat won European and World silver behind the Italians but surged past them in 2002 to reclaim their European title and become the Olympic Champions. At the 2002 Olympics, they led after the compulsory dances and the original dance. Their free dance, “Liberty”, mixed music with sections from the famed freedom speech by Martin Luther King Jr.; a 5-4 split of the judges’ panel had them in first place in this segment ahead of Irina Lobacheva and Ilia Averbukh, and they became the first French ice dancers to win the Olympic gold medal.

In 2003, Peizerat founded a consulting firm, Soléus. He has also worked for Eurosport, interviewing athletes.

Peizerat and Anissina were chosen for the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, but Peizerat was granted French citizenship a few weeks later. The Olympics require that both of their partners are citizens of the country they represent, which is not common for other skating competitions.

Boucher-Zazoui put seven-year-old Peizerat together with Marina Morel, a French skater. Morel and Peizerat skated together for 14 years. They were awarded bronze in the 1989 World Junior Championships, and silver in 1991. Morel retired from the sport in 1992.

Anissina arrived at Lyon in February 1993. She wanted to take her partner to Russia, but his family opposed it. She settled in France and focused intensely on skating. Her partner was also focusing on his education and skating. They were close to breaking up after their first year of being together. However, Muriel Boucher Zazoui, their coach, felt that it was a promising partnership and said “They’re like fire and water”.

Anissina and Peizerat won the 1998 Olympic bronze medal and 1998 and 1999 World silver medals behind Anjelika Krylova and Oleg Ovsyannikov. The Russians retired due to injury and Anissina and Peizerat then developed a rivalry with the Italians Barbara Fusar-Poli and Maurizio Margaglio. The French won the 2000 European and World Championships.
