His Third brother named Leonardo was also played at lower levels of the professional tennis.

Lapentti’s performance was better during 2005, but lost his Davis Cup playoffs to Jurgen Melzer (he did not play a single Davis Cup game that year) He made it in the round two of the Legg Mason Classic, but the tournament was won to Andy Roddick, getting to the third round of an ATP tournament to the first time during his career . He was a participant in the RCA Championships (losing to Paul Goldstein in the third round) and making an appearance in the second stage of the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Championship and the third round of the Tennis Channel Open. The only event Lapentti was a participant in and did not manage to get to the second round in 2005, was the Pacific Life Open in Indian Wells in which he fell in the third round to Kevin Kim.
