This was his first interception which was returned to score a touchdown during his time at the University of California. Five minutes later, he raced downfield and came across running wide receiver Lamar Thomas and stripped the ball from him with full speed, while keeping possession and re-delivering the ball upfield. While the play was later rescinded due to an offsides penalty in Alabama however, it was effective in preventing the possibility of a Hurricane touchdown, because Miami would have opted to decline for the offsides penalty had it not been in place. This also slowed Miami’s efforts to get back on track: Miami was forced to punt shortly afterward and did not mount a major offensive threat in the Tide’s victory of 34-13.
