Margarete Pioresan is one of the most popular and richest Brazilian footballer who was born on January 1, 1956 in Toledo, Ohio, United States. Margarete Maria Pioresan, commonly known as Meg (born January 1, 1956), is an ex-brazilian footballer who served as a goalkeeper for Brazil’s women’s national football team. At the age of 40, she represented Brazil at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 1991 and 1995. Meg was a member of the Brazil women’s handball team that won a bronze medal at 1987 Pan American Games.

Brazil finished fourth at the 1996 Olympic Football Tournament. This was beyond all expectations. Meg had intended to retire following the Olympics, but Vasco convinced her to continue playing until 2000 using veteran male player Mauro Gavao as an example.

Meg kept her body in good shape by working out and playing club soccer for the women’s section at CR Vasco da Gama. Meg was part of Brazil’s surprise win over Sweden in the first FIFA Women’s World Cup 1995. Despite Brazil’s defeats to Japan, Germany and Germany resulting in Brazil being eliminated from the group, Meg achieved her Olympic dream. England, World Cup quarter-finalists in World Cup were not eligible. Brazil had the best record among the eliminated teams in the group stage. Meg suffered a fractured finger while trying to save a penalty from Homaresawa in the 2-1 defeat against Japan.

Meg started playing handball in 1975 after she enrolled at Universidade Estadual de Maringa. She then moved to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1979 to become a goalkeeper. In 1983, she was selected to the Brazil women’s handball team.

Meg played goal for EC Radar while in Rio de Janeiro. Radar began playing on grass in 1982 after two years of beach soccer in 1981 and 1980. Placar magazine reported that Meg earned 150,000 Cr from Radar in 1985. She quit football that year to concentrate on handball, which included playing at the 1987 Pan American Games in Brazil where Brazil won bronze medals.

Still concentrating on handball, Meg rejected a call–up from the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) to play for Brazil at the 1988 FIFA Women’s Invitation Tournament. After playing in a tournament in Bulgaria in 1989 Meg concluded her handball career. When she was invited to the 1991 FIFA Women’s World Cup, she returned to football—after six years out of the game and at the age of 35—citing her dream of reaching the Olympic Games.
