Gary Uebergang is one of the most popular and richest Rower who was born on February 3, 1951 in Australia. Gary Uebergang (born 3 February 1951) is an Australian former rower. He was the national champion three times and was a participant in the eight-man event for men in the 1976 Summer Olympics.
In Sydney Uebergang was a member of The Mosman Rowing Club. In 1976, the Australian Rowing Championships saw an open eight-eight event for men that was that was contested (distinct from King’s Cup) and Uebergang was a member of an all-Mosman team that won the title. In 1977, for the Australian Championships the New South Wales King’s Cup crew was split down and competed for the national coxed title with two different boats. Uebergang was wearing Mosman colors and his team was fourth at the time of the competition.
A German language teacher, Uebergang had a long teaching career at Sydney’s Shore School. He was a rowing master there and coached the 1985 Shore 1st VIII to victory in the schoolboy eight title at that year’s Australian Rowing Championships. He was chosen as coach of the 1989 New South Wales youth eight to contest the Noel Wilkinson Trophy at the Interstate Regatta although that year’s racing was cancelled due to cyclone conditions.
He was selected as the senior state representative in New South Wales in 1976 in the men’s eight team that took part in and took home the King’s Cup at the Interstate Regatta. In 1977, he was named the reserve, and in 1978, he was once more as a five-seater of New South Wales’s King’s Cup winning eight.

Born in Queensland in Queensland, he completed an art degree in Queensland at University of Queensland and rowed in the university’s men’s eight team during the 2001 Australian Intervarsity Championships. He was the first state representative to represent Queensland in the senior men’s eight, which competed in during the 1971 King’s Cup at the Interstate Regatta. He also rowed with Queensland during the year 1973 King’s Cup.
In 1976, the Australian men’s eight team for during the 1996 Montreal Olympics included a majority of that previous year’s King’s Cup winning New South Wales team, with the exception of Malcolm Shaw in the two seats in the two seat and Brian Richardson at bow. Alongside Uebergang rowing at 4 they started their Olympic campaign by winning a heat in a world record time. They then advanced through to their final. In the heat, Shaw was struck by a serious injured back (a ruptured vertebra) that saw him drop removed from the team and was replaced with Peter Shakespear, the reserve. In the final, the Australians placed fifth.
For the 1978 World Rowing Championships in Lake Karapiro, the successful New South Wales King’s Cup eight was again selected and was composed of all Sydney men excepting Uebergang who rowed at five and Athol MacDonald also from Mosman. The Australian eight placed second in their heat, third in the repechage and in the final finished fourth being edged out for third by the host nation New Zealand.
