Zoe McBride, a New Zealander rower, was born 27 September 1995. She is the double world champion in lightweight single scull for women. She is the second New Zealander to win both the lightweight and the premier single sculls national championships.
McBride began rowing in 2009 McBride was a strong competitor at the Maadi cup, an annual New Zealand secondary school rowing regatta. She won three gold medals and four silver medals in 2011, 2012 and 2013. McBride was first to represent New Zealand at the World Rowing Junior Championships 2012 in Plovdiv (Bulgaria), where she won a bronze medal in quadruple rowing with Ruby Tew, Hannah Osborne, and Nathalie Hill. In 2013, McBride represented New Zealand at World Rowing Junior Championships, Trakai, Lithuania. She trained at Lake Karapiro during her time at St Peter’s School, Cambridge. The team finished fifth in the final of the junior women’s quad-scull. She was part of the New Zealand team at the World Rowing U23 Championships 2014 in Varese (Italy) in the lightweight double-sculls. Sophie MacKenzie won gold.
At the 2017 New Zealand rowing nationals at Lake Ruataniwha, she became national champion in both the lightweight and premier open single sculls. She is the second New Zealand rower to achieve this feat, with the previous double taken by Philippa Baker in the 1987–88 season. At the 2017 World Rowing Championships in Sarasota, Florida, she won a silver medal in the lightweight double sculls partnered with Jackie Kiddle. At the 2018 World Rowing Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, McBride and Kiddle came sixth in the lightweight double sculls.
