Gary Paul Nabhan is one of the most popular and richest Anthropologist who was born on March 17, 1952 in Gary, Indiana, United States. Gary Paul Nabhan (born 1952) is an agricultural Ecologist, Ethnobotanist, Ecumenical Franciscan Brother, and an author who’s work has been focused on the indigenous plants and the diverse cultures that are indigenous to the Desert Southwest. Nabhan is regarded as an innovator of the movement for local foods as well as the preservation of heirloom seeds.

In addition to his books and articles on pollination ecology , for which he was the as the only author and editor was also the co-author together with Stephen L. Buchmann one of the most important books on the subject The Forgotten Pollinators from Island Press (1996).

He was the co-founder of Native Seeds/SEARCH while working at the University of Arizona. The non-profit organization is organization for conservation that works to conserve indigenous plants from the southwest and to increase knowledge about their use (1982-1993). He was then director of research at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum (1993-2000) prior to becoming director in the beginning of the Center for Sustainable Environments at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ (2000-2008). In 2008, he relocated towards the south of Tucson where he joined with the University of Arizona faculty as researcher social scientist at the Southwest Center, where he is currently Director of Research and the Kellogg Endowed Chair of Southwestern Borderlands Food and Water Security. He serves on several board members of conservation organizations.

First-generation Lebanese American, Nabhan was born within Gary, Indiana. Nabhan excelled in high school, which led him to be able to go to Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa for 18 months. He later moved his studies to Prescott College in Arizona, getting an B.A. of Environmental Biology in 1974, and has remained in Arizona since. He holds obtained an M.S. for plant science (horticulture) at University of Arizona. University of Arizona (1978) and an Ph.D. on the multidisciplinary field of arid lands resource sciences from the University of Arizona (“Papago Fields: Arid Lands Ethnobotany and Agricultural Ecology” 1983). In the course of his studies, he began working with and learning from people from the Tohono O’odham American Indians.

In these writings, the writer was married in his early years and had a family but divorced in the mid-80s after which he remarried again but again with Caroline Wilson in the early 1990s. The couple is now married with their third wife Laurie Monti (formerly of Northern Arizona University) and lives in Patagonia, Arizona on a five-acre farm located towards south of the town. He cultivates a variety of varieties of heirloom fruits and nuts that date back to earlier in Spanish Mission era and from the Middle Eastern homelands of his Lebanese ancestral ancestors, as in heritage beans and grains that have been adapted to the harsh climates of Arizona.
