As an Canadian citizens, Beacom protested against United States income tax. He published his book on the subject called Apology.
In his professional life Beacom was known for his unusual moves, including his rendition of Leonard Cohen’s I’m Your Man. He was the winner of at the 1998 World Professional Championships. Beacom is currently training in figure skating and competing in ISU Adult competitions with his age of 57.

Beacom started skating at six. Between 1983 and 1984, Beacom took home his silver medal in the Canadian Championships behind Brian Orser. He placed 11th at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo and 10th at the 1984 World Championships. In the final portion of his amateur competitive career, he was a coach himself, while pursuing an undergraduate degree.
