Garry Richards (born 11 June 1986) is an English professional footballer who retired. He was a central defender who played over 100 games during the Football League for Gillingham. The club he was with included Colchester United, Southend United and Brentford.

On February 9, 2007 Richards was signed by League One strugglers Brentford on the basis of a one-month loan. The loan was later extended to the final game of the 2006-07 campaign. Richards played in 10 games and scored a goal, which was the opening goal in a draw with Oldham Athletic on 25 March and before the loan ended because of a pelvic injury sustained during a game against Cheltenham Town on 7 April.

On 25 June 2012, Richards dropped into non-league football to join Conference Premier club Luton Town on a two-year contract. Richards’ time at Kenilworth Road was beset by injury and despite multiple operations and extensive periods of rehabilitation on an injured ankle, he failed to win a call into a squad before his contract was mutually terminated on 14 October 2013. Richards’ departure signalled his retirement from football.

Richards was signed by League One club Southend United with a two-year agreement for an unspecified amount on the 4th of August, 2007. After only 14 appearances during the first two months of the 2007-08 season Richards was released from Roots Hall on 25 January 2008.

A member of the youth academy of Colchester United, Richards won his first call-up to his first squad in the League One match versus Hartlepool United on August 30, 2004. Richards was a non-striker in the 2-1 loss and was forced to wait until the 3rd of September before making his official debut that was the day he made his debut in a 0-0 draw against Bristol City. Richards played 19 times in the 2005-06 season and helped lead the Us to automatically be promoted towards the Championship. Even though he scored his debut strike for his club, the sole goal of the game against Preston North End on 30 January 2007 Richards was not in favor during the 2006-07 campaign and spent two months on loan. Richards was released from Layer Road in August 2007 after playing in 24 games and scoring one goal for the club.

On the 29th of January, 2005 Richards signed up to Conference Premier club Gravesend & Northfleet on a one-month loan. He did not show up prior to the expiry of his loan.

On 25 January 2008, Richards joined League One strugglers Gillingham on a ​2 ⁄2 -year contract for an undisclosed fee. At the end of the 2008–09 season, he was part of the team which secured promotion back to League One with victory in the 2009 League Two play-off Final. Despite suffering ankle ligament damage and a broken toe in April 2010, Richards signed a new two-year contract in July 2010, but his Gillingham career was ultimately ended by a fractured fibula suffered during a 3–1 victory over Barnet on 6 March 2012. Richards was released in May 2012 and made 122 appearances and scored six goals during ​4 ⁄2 seasons at Priestfield.
