Garret Sparks is one of the most popular and richest Ice Hockey Player who was born on June 28, 1993 in Elmhurst, Illinois, United States. Garret Sparks (born on June 28th 1993) is an American professional goalie in the ice hockey world who is currently playing with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League and is being contracted to Vegas Golden Knights of the National Hockey League (NHL). Sparks was selected to the Toronto Maple Leafs in the seventh round, 190th overall during the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. In 2020, he was one of the only goalies that have ever played in the NHL and the latest to achieve a shutout during his NHL debut. Sparks was also the very first Maple Leafs goaltender to do this. In the year 2018, Sparks was awarded the Harry “Hap” Holmes Memorial Award as the AHL goalie with the lowest average of goals against and helped lead his team Marlies towards their very first Calder Cup.
The following year, Gibson was traded to the New York Islanders as part of a trade deal with Michael Grabner, leaving an vacant roster spot for the Marlies. Sparks was able to keep the position and was the replacement for Bibeau in the beginning of the season. However, a calf accident to Jonathan Bernier on the Maple Leafs led to management having to bring in Bibeau and make Sparks as the team’s temporary starting point. Sparks did well and was named The AHL’s First Star of the Week for the week of November 8th in 2015. Sparks stopped the ball from hitting 96 times in his time as starting goalie in the absence of Bibeau, which was enough to take over the starting position after Bibeau’s return. In the event of another injury to this season’s Maple Leafs (this time befalling James Reimer), Sparks was called-up because of his impressive performance.
On February 27, 2016, Sparks was called-up by the Maple Leafs following the trade of starting goaltender James Reimer. Sparks would play the remainder of the season with the Maple Leafs, recording disappointing numbers. Following the completion of the campaign, and with the Maple Leafs out of contention to qualify for the 2016 Stanley Cup playoffs, Sparks was sent down to the Marlies to help the first place team in their 2016 Calder Cup playoffs run. Despite being favourites to win, the Marlies would suffer a third-round exit to the Hershey Bears.
During the 2017–18 AHL season, Sparks was named the AHL’s goaltender of the month of January after he recorded a 5–0–0–1 record, including two shutouts. He was called-up to the NHL on an emergency basis in March, but was sent down without seeing any playing time. At the conclusion of the 2017–18 season, Sparks was voted the AHL’s Top Goaltender of the season and named to the First All-Star team after amassing a 30–9–2 record and a league-leading .936 save percentage. On April 15, 2018, Sparks and fellow Marlies goaltender Calvin Pickard were awarded the Harry “Hap” Holmes Memorial Award.
After a disappointing performance at the hands of the Washington Capitals after which Jonathan Bernier was openly criticised in a post-game interview with Maple Leafs head coach Mike Babcock in an interview following the game, Sparks was informed that the team would give him his debut NHL debut on the 30th of November of 2015. In his first start Sparks recorded 24 saves and recorded a victory of 3-0 in the home arena in the game against Edmonton Oilers, the first time in Maple Leafs history that a goalie had a shutout during his first game. Sparks would be in the following games, but he would suffer an injury. After healing, Sparks was sent down to the Marlies. Sparks would be the Marlies their backup player, since Bibeau was playing well. In order to get Sparks more ice time Sparks was sent into the Solar Bears. Sparks would only play one game with his team Solar Bears before being brought back to the Marlies. While doing this, Sparks achieved a rare feat in his career of participating in three leagues of three leagues in the NHL, AHL and ECHL during the same season.

In November 2016, Sparks was suspended indefinitely by the Maple Leafs for violating team policy after directing violent and sexist language toward a user in an online group. During an argument which took place in the group, Sparks wrote, “I want to go to open hockey with you, drag you out to center ice and beat you into a [expletive] pulp until you can’t run that [expletive] little mouth of yours. God, you sound like a 13-year-old girl.” When another member objected to Sparks’ language, he added, “Girls don’t even whine as much as this guy does.” Sparks returned to the team later in December.
