The Borounovs were trained during their time in Perth, Australia, and Moscow, Russia. They started traveling towards Russia in 2005 to learn from Elena Kustarova and Svetlana Alexeeva. Their debut international event competition was their participation in the Four Continents Championships, where they were 14th. They took home the Australian national title during the 2006-2007 seasons and won their bronze at 2007’s NRW Trophy.
After making the move into Australia, Borounov began training with Andrei Filippov in Perth. He joined forces along with Maria Borounov (until then a singles skater) in 2002. He also helped his wife through all her dance exams.

Evgueni Borounov (born 10 June 1979) is a former Russian-Australian professional ice dancer. He competed for Australia along with his wife Maria Borounov, he became the 2006-2007 Australian national champion. He also competed in the six Four Continents Championships.
Borounov started learning skating in Russia in 1984. When he was 11 years old, he made the switch his singles skating to Ice dance on the advice of Ice dancing instructor Gennadi Akkermann. He along with Svetlana Kulikova ice skated with each other for nearly four years. They planned to represent Lithuania in the 1995 World Junior Championships but were removed after Lithuania’s skating federation did not want two Russians representing the country.
They competed at six consecutive Four Continents, from 2006 to 2011. Kustarova and Alexeeva served as their coaches until the end of the 2008–2009 season. The Borounovs retired from competition in 2011.
