Ethan Byron Moreau (born September 22nd 1975) is a Canadian former professional hockey player. Moreau was picked as the 1st round in 1994’s NHL Entry Draft, 14th overall from the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL). He also played for The Edmonton Oilers, Columbus Blue Jackets and the Los Angeles Kings of the NHL. He is currently an assistant coach at Niagara University.
Moreau is also considered to be the only remaining asset the Oilers retained due to the Wayne Gretzky trade — including all trades that followed into consideration. He was also among most long-serving Oiler players of recent times as he was a member on the squad from march 20 1999 until June 30, 2010.
In 2003-04, he scored a career-high 20 goals and was one of the team’s best players in a failed late run for the playoffs. The following NHL season was cancelled due to the lockout, so Moreau played with EC VSV Villach of the Austrian Hockey League.
On October 6, 2006, Moreau was signed by the Oilers to a 4-year contract extension, staving off the unrestricted free agency and keeping the winger with the team through the 2010–2011 season.

In the Pre-OHL, Moreau was a junior OHA hockey player at Orillia, Ontario, for the Orillia Terriers, where he received the famous Steve Philips Memorial Award for the most improved player (1990–91 year). When Moreau was chosen by the Blackhawks in the summer of 1990, he had completed his third season in the OHL which was played by Niagara Falls. Apart from his strong physical strength and skating ability, Moreau had shown a impressive scoring ability during his draft year. The Blackhawks let Moreau to continue playing as a the junior league (for Sudbury), before they brought his talents to the IHL squad in Indianapolis. Moreau was also a spot player in the NHL for eight games.
Moreau played junior hockey for his club, the Huntsville Blues of the OMHA prior to playing Jr.B. hockey with the Orillia Terriers in the 1990–91 season.
On March 20, 1999, Moreau was dealt in a blockbuster trade to the Edmonton Oilers along with Chad Kilger, Daniel Cleary and Christian Laflamme in exchange for Boris Mironov, Dean McAmmond and Jonas Elofsson.
