Ernie Gonzalez (February 19, 1961 – May 15th 2020) was an American professional golfer who competed for the PGA Tour in the 1980s. He took home the only title during his professional career, in the year 1986. He became the only left-handed golfer to be crowned the winner of an PGA Tour event.

Gonzalez worked full-time for his PGA Tour from 1985 to 1989. Gonzalez shot a 14-under-par 128 to lead Joey Sindelar by one stroke to take the 36-hole rain- shortened Pensacola Open in 1986 for his first Tour win. Gonzalez’s victory Gonzalez is the first win for left-handed golfers on PGA Tour since Bob Charles in 1974’s Greater Greensboro Open. Gonzalez was also the third player with a left-handed swing to win an event played on the Tour following Charles in 1974 and Sam Adams.

After losing his Tour card, Gonzalez worked as a golf instructor and a warehouseman at Wirtz Beverage Nevada. He has also played in a limited number of Nationwide Tour events, and in select PGA Tour events using exemptions. He lived with his family in Las Vegas, where he was employed at a beverage distributorship. The only event on the PGA Tour Champions that he participated in after turning 50 was the 2011 Senior Open Championship. However, he did not make the cut.
