She is an Oklahoman politician who is the Minority Leader for the Oklahoma House of Representatives, she was previously the House Democratic Caucus Chair. Her first election was in the year 2010 at 25 years old and is the representative for the 44th district which encompasses Norman, Oklahoma.

In May of 2017, Virgin was elected House Democratic Caucus Chair. Her term would begin next year. In 2017 Virgin has been a member of the Appropriations and Budget Committee Higher Education and Career Tech Committee, Judiciary – Civil and Environmental Committee, and the Public Safety Committee.

In 2015 the Oklahoma Legislature was considering the possibility of a bill to protect religious freedom which would permit businesses to deny services to those who are not in accordance with the business’s convictions about religion, mostly in the case of bakers and photographers who oppose marriages between same genders. Virgin received notice of an amendment to the bill that requires the companies to publish an announcement stating the classes of patrons they’d refuse services to in an attempt to stop the bill. The bill was blocked the next week.
