Emi Watanabe is one of the most popular and richest Figure Skater who was born on August 27, 1959 in Tokyo, Japan. Emi Kathleen Watanabe (Du Bu Hui Mei , Watanabe Emi born on 27 August 1959) is a Japanese former figure skater who competed who was an 1979 World bronze medalist, as well as an eight time Japanese National champion. The first figure skater to win gold for Japan in the ladies’ individual competition at the World Championships.

In her final season of competitive play, Watanabe won gold at the 1979 NHK Trophy and then won her eighth national championship. She finished 6th in the 1988 Winter Olympics. She concluded her career with the 1988 World Championships, where she was 4th in the competition.

Watanabe ran for The House of Councilors election in 2001 from Liberal League, but lost.

Watanabe made it through the World top ten during the 1998 World Championships in which she finished 8th. Following that she was awarded her bronze at the the 1979 Worlds making her the first Japanese lady to be awarded a medal in the event.
