Elizabeth Punsalan was born January 9, 1971 , in Syracuse, New York. The father of her, Ernesto, moved from the Philippines to the United States as a medical student. She then was surgeon. She got married to Jerod Swallow in September 1993. The younger of her brothers, Ricky is charged with the murder of their father who was fatally wounded the 4th of February, 1994 but was later found in a mental state that was not able to stand trial.
From 1992 onwards, Punsalan/Swallow started working together in conjunction with Igor Shpilband for choreography in Detroit. The 1993-94 season was the time when they had been named their head coach. They had a rivalry with Renee Roca / Gorsha Sur who choreographed their program and also trained alongside them. It was reported that the U.S. had a single entry in the ice dancing event in the 1994 Winter Olympics. Punsalan and Swallow were part of an effort to write letters to Congress to block Sur from obtaining an expedited citizenship that will allow him to participate in the 2014 Olympics. When they competed at the U.S. Championships in January 1994, Punsalan and Swallow were first in the first dance, beating their injured rivals who placed second place. The team withdrew prior to the free dance, and Punsalan/Swallow won their second national championship and were chosen for the Olympic team. They took part in the 1994 Olympics just two weeks after the death of her father, and finished 15th.
Punsalan/Swallow ended their eligible career in 1998 and continued to skate in shows for a number of years. Punsalan became a coach at the Detroit Skating Club in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.
In the beginning of her playing career Punsalan was a competitor alongside Christopher Rettstatt. They were 8th in the 1988 U.S. Championships.

Elizabeth Punsalan or Swallow (born on January 9 1970) was an American Ice dancer from the United States. Together with her husband Jerod Swallow she has been 5 times U.S. national champion, two-time Skate America champion, and was twice a participant at the Winter Olympics.
Punsalan began skating together with Swallow in the middle of 1989. They were first guided by Sandy Hess in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They finished 7th at the 1989 Skate America and 5th at the 1990 U.S. Championships. The following year they took home the first U.S. national title. They were among the most popular players to make the Olympic team, but during their 1993 U.S. Championships, Swallow was injured in the free-dance and they placed third place. Swallow wanted to quit the competition to show skate, but she convinced him to stay.
