Slijngard was born in Amsterdam and grew up in his way through the Ajax young players. In 2006 Slijngard received the title of AFC Ajax “Talent of the Future”. He made his professional debut football during the 2006-07 campaign when he was on loan with FC Groningen, while still contracted with Ajax.
