Denise Curry (born August 22 29th, 1959) is an American former basketball player as well as a professional and college basketball coach. Curry was inducted into the first class of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999.
She was named MVP of the Western Collegiate Athletic Conference three times, and was named the UCLA All-University Athlete of The Year for 1981. She was awarded the USA Basketball Female Athlete of the Year in 1981.
In 1984, the USA sent its National team to the 1984 William Jones Cup competition in Taipei, Taiwan, for pre-Olympic practice. The team easily beat each of the eight teams they played, winning by an average of just under 50 points per game. Curry averaged 9.0 points per game.
For the US national team, she won gold medals in the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984, Pan American Games in 1983, World Championships in 1979, and silver medals at World Championships in 1983, World University Games in 1981 and Pan American Games in 1979.
Curry was selected as the representative of his country of the USA in the USA Basketball team in the 1981 World University games, held in Bucharest, Romania. After winning the first game in the tournament, the USA was beaten by China with an advantage at halftime. The USA were able to come back and beat China by two points, supported by 26 points from Curry. The USA were also beaten by Canada who were leading at halftime but the USA prevailed by just three points, 79-76. The USA defeated the host team Romania to get a match against unbeaten Russia to win winning the medal. The Russian team proved too powerful, and took home the gold medal, and left US with a silver medal. Curry was averaging 18.3 score per game, leading his team to score.

The family was born in Fort Benton, Montana, Curry relocated from Montana to Davis, California by the age of high school. Her graduation was from Davis Senior High School. During her time at UCLA, she played for UCLA to an AIAW National Championship in 1978 She was recognized as All-America 3 times (1979 and 1980, as well as 1981) she set 14 school records and was the all-time top scoring (3,198 points) and rebounder (1,310 points). She scored double figures in each of her 130 matches for UCLA. She scored an average of 24.6 score per game. Curry was a member of the USA National team at the 1983 World Championships, held in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The team won six games, but lost two against the Soviet Union. In an opening round game, the USA team had a nine-point lead at halftime, but the Soviets came back to take the lead, and a final shot by the USA failed to drop, leaving the USSR team with a one-point victory 85–84. The USA team won their next four games, setting up the gold medal game against USSR. This game was also close, and was tied at 82 points each with six seconds to go in the game. The Soviets Elena Chausova received the inbounds pass and hit the game winning shot in the final seconds, giving the USSR team the gold medal with a score of 84–82. The USA team earned the silver medal. Curry averaged 13.6 points per game, including 28 points in the overtime victory against China.
