Archibald participated in the Canucks in training camp prior to the 2013-14 season. However, he was transferred to the AHL to join Vancouver’s new affiliate which is the Utica Comets. Archibald played in 4 games with Utica with one goal and an assist. When Archibald was playing with his team, the Comets, Vancouver suffered several injuries, which led to Archibald’s summons. Archibald was able to make the NHL debut on the 25th of October 2013 in a 3-2 overtime victory in the St. Louis Blues. He played for eight minutes and recorded two shots and one hit. A few days later the player scored his first point of his career with an assist in a 4-0 victory over Toronto’s Toronto Maple Leafs. He was assigned by the Comets on the 12th of November 2013. Archibald played a brief game in Vancouver on January 14, 2014. Then, in March Daniel Sedin suffered a leg injury, and Archibald was called back to fill in for his roster place. On his third recall, Archibald scored his first career NHL goal on March 8, 2014 against Joni Ortio from the Calgary Flames.
On October 1, 2018, Archibald was placed on, then cleared waivers, and assigned to begin the 2018–19 season with the Utica Comets. He was later recalled to play on Canucks’ depleted/injured roster, appearing in nine games and scoring two points. On January 2, 2019, Archibald and Anders Nilsson were traded to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for Mike McKenna, Tom Pyatt and a 2019 sixth-round draft pick. Archibald was immediately re-assigned to Ottawa’s AHL affiliate, the Belleville Senators.
Despite limited NHL success, Archibald found himself without an NHL contract, and remained in the Canucks minor league system for several years. In the 2016–17 season, Archibald had a breakout year statistically, scoring 47 points in 76 games and winning the Comets’ MVP award. After a strong preseason, Archibald was one of the Canucks’ last cuts to start the 2017–18 season. On February 7, 2018, the Canucks announced that they had signed Archibald to an NHL contract and that he would make his return to the NHL.
In his second season as a professional in 2012-13 the 2012-13 NHL lockout resulted in a number of younger Canucks being able to play on the AHL. Due to the increase in capacity within Chicago, Archibald did not join an appearance for the Wolves out of the camp for training and was sent to Kalamazoo. In Kalamazoo he scored 6 goals and 14 points over 18 games. In the meantime, Chicago sustained several injuries and struggled with the powerplay. In the end, Archibald was sent back to the Wings. Archibald scored his first game for the Wolves and, after eight games, Archibald was third place in the Wolves for scoring goals. At the time the lockout came to an end, Archibald was 1 of 12 Wolves players selected to an abbreviated session of training in Vancouver. Archibald was sent back to Chicago after the conclusion of the camp. Archibald completed the season with 22 and 12 goals over 55 matches. Since the Wolves didn’t get into this year’s Calder Cup playoffs, Archibald was called up to the Canucks as an additional player in the event of an emergencies. After the conclusion of the playoffs Archibald was made an unrestricted free agent. Archibald signed with the Canucks with a one-year two-way contract that was worth $600,000 on level NHL level.

In his debut year playing the junior hockey league, Archibald had to be dropped from the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) try-out, and played as a junior. He was a player in Stouffville Spirit Stouffville Spirit in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) with scores of 21 and 47 over 48 games. In the following season, he joined an appearance with Barrie Colts in the OHL. He scored 29 points and 25 goals across the 68 games. He also scored seven points over five playoff games, as Barrie fell in the opening round of the playoffs to Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors. In the months prior to the beginning of 2009-2010 OHL season Archibald got invited to NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets development training camp as an independent player. When he returned in Barrie, Archibald scored 26 goals and 59 points over the course of 57 games. The playoffs saw Barrie beat their opponents the Sudbury Wolves Brampton Battalion and the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors in order to qualify for the OHL championship which they lost off by Windsor Spitfires. In the playoffs, Archibald added five goals and scored 10 points over 15 games.
In the pre-season leading up to the 2011-12 season Archibald was a part of the Canucks during the 2011 Young Stars Tournament, where Archibald scored two goals and also added an assist, which tied with the team’s lead. Following the event, he was admitted to the Canucks principal session of training, however he he was not able to be selected for the team and was assigned to the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Chicago Wolves. He began the season in Chicago and scored one goal in the Wolves opening game of the season. He was unable to score during the subsequent 17 games before being dropped to the ECHL’s Kalamazoo Wings. Within the ECHL, Archibald scored 9 goals and 30 points over 36 games, earning him a call-up with the Wolves. Archibald played in two games of the AHL without scoring, and was assigned with the Wings. He was averaging 45 points and 14 goals in 49 games. He was leading in all Kalamazoo newcomers in point totals.
In the off-season, Archibald was again passed over in the NHL Entry Draft. He attended the Detroit Red Wings NHL conditioning prospect camp and played in the corresponding prospect tournament. He returned to the OHL for his over-age season, where he scored 18 goals in 24 games for Barrie before being traded to the Niagara IceDogs. Shortly after the trade, he signed an NHL entry-level free agent contract with the Vancouver Canucks. In Niagara, Archibald added another 23 goals and 36 points in 37 games. In the opening game of the playoffs, he scored four goals in a 7–1 win over Brampton. Niagara defeated the Battalion in four games and eliminated the Oshawa Generals in the second round. Following the second round victory, Archibald was named the OHL Player of the Week. The IceDogs were eventually eliminated in the conference finals by Mississauga as Archibald finished the playoffs with 10 goals and 14 points in 14 games.
