Corey James John O’Keeffe (born 5 June 1998) is a professional footballer that is a full back as well as a midfielder with Birmingham City of the Championship. He made his debut as a senior for Birmingham in 2016 and was on loan with Solihull Moors of the National League in the year 2018 as well as at League Two club Macclesfield Town in 2019-20. Born in England O’Keeffe has played for his country in Republic of Ireland at levels from the age of 16 to 19 years old.
After impressing for Birmingham’s under-23 squad and working with first-team players, O’Keeffe was given squad number 30 in December of 2016. He made his debut for the senior team during the Championship game against Newcastle United on 10 December in the 74th minute of the game in a loss of 4-0. It was his only first-team appearance of 2016-17.
O’Keeffe signed a new three-year contract in August 2017. Having made no first-team appearances in 2017–18, he joined National League club Solihull Moors on loan until 17 February 2018. He went straight into the starting eleven for the following day’s match, playing the whole of a 2–2 draw at home to Sutton United, but was not a regular selection, and was recalled in December having made only eight starts in National League matches.
An unused substitute in Birmingham’s EFL Cup defeat on 6 August 2019, O’Keeffe joined League Two club Macclesfield Town three days later on loan for the rest of the season. He was a first-team regular throughout the season, and had made 36 appearances in all competitions by the time the League Two season was first suspended and then ended early because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
O’Keeffe played in six games with his country Republic of Ireland U17 in preparation to play in the 2015. UEFA Under-17 Championship, scoring only once. He also played in two games in the actual tournament, after his country was eliminated in the final stage.

O’Keeffe was born in Birmingham and was a student at Baverstock School in the Druids Heath area. He was noticed by the representatives from Birmingham City when playing for Cadbury Athletic, and joined the club’s Academy in the year 2008. He was awarded the club’s scholarship at the end of July. After being interviewed later in the year He analyzed his strengths in attacking and heading and decided he’d like to strengthen his weaker foot.
O’Keeffe took part in two Ireland under-18 friendly matches with his country of origin, the Czech Republic in November 2015 and England in March of 2016 and was also a part of Birmingham teammates Ronan Hale in a 2-2 draw against Germany U18 on May. He played in both Ireland under-19s’ friendly matches in the match against Austria U19, in the month of September. He was captaining the team in the second game, and took part in two of their three UEFA Under-19 qualifying round matches in October. In March of the following year He played in the three elite round matches. Ireland came 2nd in the group, and they did not qualify.
He signed his first professional contract, of two years, in May 2016. He was an unused substitute for the Birmingham reserve team that lost the 2016 Birmingham Senior Cup final to National League North champions Solihull Moors.
