Claire Michel is one of the most popular and richest Triathlete who was born on October 13, 1988 in Brussels, Belgium. Michel is a native of Brussels and was of Belgian parents Her maternal grandmother, Colette Crabbe, represented Belgium in 1976 at the Montreal Olympic Games in swimming.

She was in 2012 when she made the switch to triathlon and was a member of her first triathlon club, the Brussels Triathlon Club. She was the Belgian champion on the Sprint distance in the year 2012. In her second year of triathlon, she participated in five ITU eventsand won an award of silver in the ITU Aquathlon World Championships in London.

In 2015 Michel started competing as professional triathlete, with a 24th position in the second race of the 2015 World Cup in New Plymouth, 1’40” behind race winner Kaitlin Donner and with 4th place in the running section, just 6 seconds behind the winner. In the second race of the season she had a bike crash and she had to abandon the race; the same happened in the 3rd race of the season in Cape Town, and sprained foot ligaments forced Michel to miss the Far-East section of the World Cup and World Series, and drop out from the Olympic Qualification List for Rio.

The Olympic year did not start very well for Michel, finishing the first 4 races of 2016 always at the bottom of the standings, always due to bad performances in the bike fraction. This negative trend ended in Chengdu where, despite a bad swim fraction which put her 1’18” behind the best swimmer Summer Cook, she was able to catch the right “bike train”, arrive in T2 in the first group, and run herself in the first second position of her career, 36 seconds behind the winner Cook.

at the age of one , she relocated to Oregon and earned her Bachelor in Arts at the University of Oregon in 2011. Then she returned to Belgium where she was employed in the American Chamber of Commerce in Brussels and was able to complete “Advanced Masters in Innovation and Strategic Management” in 2014 at the Solvay Business School.

Claire Michel (born 13 October 1988 in Brussels) is the Belgian professional triathlete. She was the 2013 Aquathlon Vice-World Champion. She was named Belgium Triathlon’s female Athlete Of The Year two times in 2014 and 2015 she’s a part of the National Team and represented Belgium in this year’s Summer Olympics which took place in Rio. She was also Belgian Champion on the Sprint distance for 2016.

Michel began her athletic career at the age of 12 after learning about her mother’s participation at the Montreal Olympics in the Olympics, and she was a member of her high school in competitions in swimming. At the age of 14, she began to compete in cross-country as well as track and field, quickly being one of the best Junior athletes of Oregon in both fields. She later became a member of in the University of Oregon athletic team with the award of a scholarship for her sports performance. She set a record of 3,000 meters in the steeplechase school record and placed 8th in the NCAA Championship in 2011. A stress fracture stopped her from competing in Olympic Games in 2012 London Olympic Games.

In 2014, while still finishing her post master at Solvay University, she competed in both World Triathlon Series and World Cup races: her best positions of the year were a 3rd place in Chengdu World Cup race, and a 6th place in Yokohama. She finished the year in 33rd position in the World Triathlon Series ranking, first female Belgian. During the conference Triathlon World she has been elected as female “Athlète de l’année 2014”.
