Christine M. “Tina” Tartaglione (born on the 21st of September in 1960) is an American politician from Pennsylvania currently serving as an Democratic senator in the Pennsylvania State Senate, representing the 2nd District since. This district lies in the lower Northeast Philadelphia.
In March of 1994 Tartaglione declared her candidacy for Pennsylvania State Senate in the 2nd District. In her campaign she campaigned on a platform that included greater gun control, improved day care, ethnic and racial peace, more jobs in addition to affordable housing. She was defeated by Harvey Rice, a lawyer that was supported from Mayor Ed Rendell and party chairman Bob Brady, in the Democratic primary. The general elections saw her narrowly beat Republican incumbent Bruce Marks by 393 votes. After her victory she became the fifth female appointed to in the State Senate in Pennsylvania.
During the Labor Day weekend of 2003, Tartaglione was severely injured when she fell on the deck of a small powerboat while off the Jersey Shore. A larger boat had whipped up a large wake which caused her boat to rock and resulted in her injuring her spinal cord and needing to use a wheelchair. After a number of surgeries and intense physical therapy, Tartaglione was able to walk for the first time in seven years to her seat in the Senate chambers at an October 2010 ceremony before her colleagues and well-wishers.
The year 1992 was the time that Tartaglione was unsuccessful in her bid to challenge Republican incumbent John Perzel for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in the district of 172nd. In the course of this campaign Perzel claimed that she was an instrument of her mother. Tartaglione also claimed that he was disconnected from his constituents. Despite the Democratic voter count of approximately 22,000, she lost by more than 3000 votes.

Christine Tartaglione was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Eugene M. and Margaret (nee Warnecki) Tartaglione. Her mother has been a long-time politician in Philadelphia who was a Democratic Ward leader in addition to a commissioner for the city (1976-2011). Her early education was in the parochial school that was part of St. Martin of Tours Church and then was a graduate of St. Basil Academy in 1978.
Tartaglione was a student at Peirce College, from where she graduated with a maxima cumlaude in the year 1980. She worked as the assistant of Joan L. Krajewski, who was a member of the Philadelphia City Council, from 1986 until 1989. She was then an executive assistant in the senior level to the State Treasury Secretary Catherine Baker Knoll from 1989 until 1992, at which point she was appointed an official representative of members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1776.
Tartaglione has subsequently been re-elected to six more terms, never receiving less than 76% of the vote. She has served as Democratic chair of the Aging and Youth Committee, and is currently chair of the Senate’s Philadelphia and Southeastern Pennsylvania delegations, as well as Democratic chair of the Labor and Industry Committee. She sponsored successful legislation that raised Pennsylvania’s minimum wage, and was a leading advocate for the creation of the Office for People with Disabilities in the governor’s office. She served as a delegate to the 2000 Democratic National Convention.
