- She was a member of the team in Aldershot, Farnham & District AC. In Seoul she came third in the 1500 m final. She also took home an gold medal in the 1500m race at the 1982 Commonwealth Games. In 1979 she was the very first British woman to complete the 800m in under two minutes.
On July 6, 1984 Boxer made her record-breaking career best time of 4:00.57 at the 1500 m race at Gateshead and broke Christine Benning’s age-old British record. One month later in the Los Angeles Olympics, she placed 7th at the end of the 1500m race in 4:05.53. Her final race of the season was the fastest time of her career in the mile with 4:22.64 during London. However, Boxer lost her British 1500 meters records to Zola Budd who completed the race in 3:59.96 during the race in Brussels, Boxer had another impressive year in 1985. Boxer ran her fastest ever time in the 3000m in 8:49.89 on the Crystal Palace and finished second in the 1500 m race at the European Cup in Moscow, just behind Raviliya Agletdinova from in the Soviet Union.
In 1990, Boxer won a Commonwealth Games silver medal in the 1500 m behind Canada’s Angela Chalmers. In 1992, she competed at the UK Olympic trials in Birmingham but missed out on selection for a fourth consecutive Olympic Games in Barcelona. She retired as an international athlete later that year.
Boxer was also a reporter for BBC Sport’s athletics coverage from 1996–2001, providing track-side interviews at major events including the Commonwealth Games, World Track & Cross Country Championships and the Sydney Olympic Games. She became a middle distance Team GB coach during the early – mid 2000s.
Then, in August of 1979 Boxer was the very first British woman to complete 800 metres in less than two minutes. She ran the time that was 1:59.05 at Turin. Boxer is still one of three British women, alongside Kirsty Wade, and Hannah England, to have completed both 2 minutes for 800m in a time of nine minutes and nine mins for 3000 meters. She earned an BSc in Physical Education and Sport Science as well as an PGCE in PE and Biology in Biology and PE at Loughborough University between 1979-1983. In this period she participated in the first Olympic Games in Moscow 1980 and reached the semi-finals of the 800 meters. The year 1982 was the time she was awarded her first gold medal during the women’s 1500m race in the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane.

Boxer is a native of Northolt, Middlesex, England and was an athlete of Aldershot, Farnham & District Athletics Club and later Gateshead Harriers & AC. In 1971, she won the Under 15 English National Cross Country Championships. She was the first winner in a series of eleven AAA Championships and UK Championship titles in 1977. She also won her the AAAs National 800 metres title in 2:03.78.
After a disappointing couple of years, Boxer returned to top form in 1988. Competing at her third Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, (under her then married name of Cahill), she finished 4th in the 1500 m final, with her best time for four years, 4:00.64. She was beaten into bronze by Tetyana Samolenko, who was later banned for taking performance-enhancing drugs. She was the fifth fastest woman in the world in 1988 at 1500m.
