Chris Phelan (born 12 December 1955) is an Australian former footballer in the rugby league that played during the 80s. He was a state- representative flexible forward for Queensland and a twice New South Wales Rugby League premiership winner with the Parramatta Eels.
After a brief stint playing for Oldham and Oldham in England, Phelan returned to his home state in the year 1985 and continued to play with Souths in helping them achieve success during the 1985 Brisbane Rugby League grand final.
Phelan joined Sydney’s current champions Parramatta during the year 1982. He was forced to withdraw from the beginning of the 1982 season when Parramatta engaged in a dispute with their rival Queensland Rugby League over his fee for transfer.

Phelan was born in Ireland. Extremely strong for his height The Townsville forward had been playing with Queensland’s Southern Suburbs club when he first got selected to play for Queensland as a lock for every game of the interstate series in 1981. Phelan played as his team’s Brisbane Rugby League premierships Rothmans Medal winner in 1981 and also took home his place in the Grand Final with Souths.
He was a prop during the Eels during their Two Grand Final wins over Manly in 1982 and 1983, but switched to the second row in the loss of 6-4 in the final game of 1984 against Canterbury. In 1984, he was sent to the Queensland team to play game III in the State of Origin series where he played in the second row.
In 2008 he was named in the Souths Magpies team of the century.
