Cheryl Pickering was born on 14 December 1950 in Georgetown, Guyana to Pearl and Layard Pickering. She was the fifth child in her family, she was raised in the Kitty neighborhood in Georgetown and attended Comenius Moravian Primary School. Then she continued her education in St. Joseph High School.

In 1980, she was assigned to the state operated Guyana Airways, where she worked as commercial pilot. Most of her flights took her to destinations within the country, however occasionally the plane flew out in to Barbados and Trinidad. When she was in 1989, she resigned from Guyana Airways and began flying with Leeward Islands Air Transport (LIAT) in Antigua. She was licensed to fly larger aircrafts including the Hawker Siddeley High-Speed 748 and, despite being based at Antigua and Barbados She regularly flown throughout all of the Eastern Caribbean, as well as to the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico as well as to Venezuela.

After completing her course, Pickering was hired as one of the first woman pilots in the Guyana Defence Force, flying Britten-Norman Islanders from 1977. In the was the year that she was married Stanley Moore and the young couple relocated to the Campbellville neighborhood of Georgetown. Within the Air Corps, Pickering-Moore was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of the corps and was a pilot on Avro, Bombardier Dash 8 Britten-Norman Islander, as well as Twin Otter planes to transport troops and other items.

Cheryl Pickering-Moore (born 1950) was among the two women who were the first flying as pilots with Guyana Defence Force. After graduating of high school Pickering began her career as a school teacher at the Malgre Tout Government School in Demerara. In the next year, she joined to the Ministry of Education to serve as a secretary typist at the Faculty of Law at the University of Guyana. The year 1973 was the first time Pickering became a part of Guyana Defence Force. Guyana Defence Force as personal assistant of the Commander Ulric Pilgrim. In the next year, she was promoted to an Second Lieutenant, which is one of only a handful of female officers of the Women’s Army Corps. The year 1975 was the first time she was assigned as a color guards during the visit to Timehri International Airport. In addition to flying, Pickering-Moore raised her five children and obtained a degree in Business Administration from the American InterContinental University. She retired from flying in 2013 and began working as a volunteer with women’s and children’s ministries in Barbados. In 2007, she was one of those honoured for International Women’s Day celebrations of the 40th Anniversary Women’s Army Corps. In 2013, Pickering-Moore and other pioneer aviators of Guyana were honoured with their likenesses being featured on postage stamps.
