In the prior year He was the College Soccer News Third-Team Preseason All- American. He then led his team Nittany Lions in goals (9) and points (21) for the third time in a row and received the Second-Team All Big Ten honors. Penn State would eventually lose in the NCAA tournament “round of 32”. After his final term as a student at Penn State, he was one of 66 seniors selected to take part in the 2005 Adidas Major League Soccer Combine at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Ca. The year before, he also selected as one of the South Jersey Soccer Coaches Association College Player of the Year. To help make his dream come true more quickly and to focus completely on soccer as a professional, Severs would graduate in only 3 and half years, earning the B.S. in Kinesiology.
Despite playing only 51 games in a Harrisburg uniform, Severs ranks as the club’s all-time leader in goals (31), points (70), and game-winning goals (6). On February 11, 2010 Pittsburgh Riverhounds announced the signing of Severs to a contract for the 2010 season.
Severs made his professional debut in 2005, when he was with The Harrisburg City Islanders of the USL Second Division and was named USL2 Rookie of the Year. Severs went on to join his new club, the Rochester Rhinos for 2006, however, the Islanders invited him back to play a five-game loan during which Severs scored four goals. He was a bigger participant at Rochester in 2007 scoring three goals and seven points in 14 games, however, he still managed to squeeze in another successful loan stint at Harrisburg (3 goals and 8 points over five games) in addition to helping the Islanders in their title run. He was a part of 11 games with Otago United of the New Zealand Football Championship.

Severs was a student at Ocean City High School in Ocean City, New Jersey which is where he currently is the second highest scoring player for New Jersey prep history. Severs’ 159 goals in his career are two short of Tab Ramos record of 161. Severs has scored 8 goals in a game at high school which is an all-time South Jersey record. In 1999 and 2000 in his senior and junior seasons in his senior and junior seasons at Ocean City High School, Severs was a part of the two New Jersey Group III state co-championships. As a child the club he played for was soccer team, the seven times New Jersey State Cup Champions, Mercer United Warriors. In 2000, he’d complete his playing career at the newly established Match Fit Academy. He also played in the Region 1 Olympic Development Team and is an Adidas Elite Soccer Program Alumni.
Severs received an athletic scholarship full time and played in the football at Penn State University from 2001-2004. While at Penn State, he led the team in scoring for three consecutive years, between 2002 and 2004. He ended the Nittany Lion career ninth in goals for career (38) in addition to scores (90). This accomplishment also puts him in the top ten of the Big Ten Conference record books. The year 2001 was the time he won the Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Year awards in addition to being recognized as the Penn State Freshman Male Student Athlete of the Year. He was selected to the Second-Team All-Big Ten as well as the College Soccer News’ All-Freshman National Second Team. The same season they Nittany Lions would make it to the NCAA Tournament “Sweet Sixteen”. The year 2002 was a great one for the team. Severs scored a dazzling season, scoring 17 goals as he was instrumental in leading his team Nittany Lions to a Big Ten Tournament Championship and then the NCAA Tournament “Elite 8”. In his sophomore season Severs was named First-Team All Big Ten accolades as well as an Honorable Mention in the College Soccer News All-American Team. in 2003 Severs recorded 7 goals while had three assists. In the same year Penn State would fall one game short of winning their second consecutive Big Ten Tournament Championship and missing out on their place in the NCAA tournament in the beginning of Severs career. They fell in their Big Ten Championship game to Indiana University in penalty kicks. Even though, it was a disappointing season for their Nittany Lion squad, Severs would be noticed by his Middle-Atlantic All-Region Second-Team.
He transferred back the Islanders in 2009, and enjoyed the most productive season of his career, scoring 9 goals in 19 games for the team.
