Marton won the women’s lightweight gold medal at 2013 World Taekwondo Championships. She became Australia’s first ever world champion in taekwondo after breaking all tie scores and beating Korean Kim Huy Lan in just four seconds.
She has a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science degree from Deakin University and was a former state volleyballer. Her personal motto is ‘hard work and ambition overtake natural ability.’
Marton has been engaged to Safwan Khalil (an Olympic taekwondo competitor), since she first met him as a teenager. Marton and Safwan Khalil were Australia’s only representatives in taekwondo at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Marton narrowly missed winning a bronze medal.
