Cano Estremera is one of the most popular and richest Singer who was born on September 2, 1958 in Santurce, Puerto Rico. Carlos Enrique Estremera Colon, a Puerto Rican Salsa performer and born 2 September 1958 is a San Juan native. Estremera is albino and is often referred to as “El Cano”, which refers to someone with light skin in Puerto Rico. He is undoubtedly the most well-known albino in the Caribbean, and has helped raise awareness about the condition’s limitations and traits (such as limited sight, which Estremera freely acknowledges in songs).

Cano Estremera discovered his singing talent while living in Residencial Los Casas, a housing project in Santurce near Trastalleres. This complex is a part of the public housing system in Santurce. Hector Lavoe was his predecessor. Estremera also acknowledges the influence of Puerto Rican jibaro singers. He was known for his ability to improvise quickly and ingeniously, much like Marvin Santiago, Gilberto Santa Ros, Oscar D’Leon, and other salsa singers. Estremera used the title “Dueno del soneo”, which was a marketing term to emphasize his ability as an on-the spot improviser, later in his life.

His twenty-years in the music business were celebrated with a 2003 CD.

Estremera was a member of Bobby Valentin’s 1978 band, along with Santiago and Luiggi Texidor, former Sonora Poncena Singer. Before forming his own band in 1984, Estremera had recorded six albums. He was the lead vocalist on many of Valentin’s most popular hits, including “La Boda de Ela” (“Her Wedding”) which Roberto Anglero wrote.

Estremera started touring the United States in 1989. He was a huge success in Puerto Rico, Brazil, Peru and other countries. His most well-known solo hit is “El Toro”, which is a funny take on infidelity and, in one sentence, his low vision.

It was announced on 25 September 2018, that Estremera was battling pulmonary fibrosis, a condition that is common among albino people. On 2 November 2018 Mr Estremera underwent a dual lung transplant operation at a Philadelphia Hospital. After almost a year of his surgery, Estremera is back in Puerto Rico, striving and undergoing physical therapy to regain strength in his legs. The dual lung transplant performed at Penn Medicine in Philadelphia was an amazing success.
