Riva began his professional career in basketball with his club in the 1977-78 basketball season. He played the majority of his time with Cantu (1977-1989 1998-2002) and together with whom he took home the FIBA European Champions Cup (now known as EuroLeague) at least twice during between the seasons of 1981-82 as well as 1982-83.
