In 2014, he drove again at Bathurst with Jack Perkins, and finished in 12th place. He was also runner-up for the Dunlop Series that year. He joined Prodrive Racing Australia in 2015 for the V8 Supercar Enduro Cup. He also competed for the team at the Dunlop Series. Waters finished second to Chaz Mostert in the Sandown 500, completing a two-two finish for Prodrive Racing Australia. Mostert was involved in a major crash at Bathurst 1000. The car could not be repaired and the team had to withdraw their entry. Mostert was replaced by Waters at the Gold Coast and Phillip Island events, while Mostert recuperated from injuries sustained during the Bathurst crash. Waters won the 2015 V8 Supercars Dunlop Series in Sydney Olympic Park over Paul Dumbrell.

Waters began his racing career in 2001 in go-karts. Waters won multiple state championships and competed nationally before moving into open-wheelers. Waters started in Formula Vee in 2009, before moving on to the Australian Formula Ford Championship. He won podium finishes in three races, and was sixth in the championship standings. This earned him the title of Rookie of Year. Waters won the championship in the next season and took seven wins. Waters was the Kelly Racing driver in the V8 Supercar Development Series at Sandown in the final season of 2011. He also continued with Dreamtime Racing in the 2012 season, before the team was pulled for financial reasons.

Waters also won the Shannons Supercar Showdown in 2011. This reality TV show is run by Kelly Racing and allows ten drivers to compete for a Bathurst 1000 drive. Waters defeated Andrew Jordan, a British driver, in the last episode to win the drive with Grant Denyer. However, the pair did not finish the race after Waters crashed into Forrests Elbow, causing damage to the car. After Denyer had injured his shoulder, Waters returned to Bathurst 1000 to take the wheel with Jesse Dixon. Waters and Dixon finished in respectable 20th place, making them the youngest drivers in race history.

It was announced in early March 2016 the Waters would race full-time in the 2016 V8 Supercars Championship with Prodrive Racing Australia driving the No. 6 Ford FG X Falcon, with Mostert moving to the No. 55 Rod Nash Racing customer car.
