Meyer announced his resignation from Team Dimension Data on June 14, 2016. This was due to personal reasons that were not disclosed. After a brief break, Meyer decided to race in the Six Day London track race together with Callum Scotson. He placed third overall. After completing the UCI Track Cycling World Championships 2017, he competed for Australia in the points race. He also participated as part of an Australian team pursuit team. Meyer rode for Australia on the road in 2017, winning the Dwars door de Vlaamse Ardennen. He also finished in the top five in the Herald Sun Tour and Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race. Meyer was announced by Mitchelton Scott in August 2017 that he would be joining them on a 3-year contract starting in 2018. The focus will be on winning the madison at 2018 Commonwealth Games as well as 2020 Summer Olympics.
Meyer’s younger brother Travis Meyer, a professional racing cyclist and one of GreenEDGE’s first signings along with fellow Australian Jack Bobridge, is also a professional racing rider. Meyer, along with fellow Australians Nathan Haas, Mark Renshaw, had completed four seasons at Orica-GreenEDGE. In October 2015, Meyer announced his intention to join Team Dimension Data for 2016.
