Brenton James Sanderson (born 27 February 1974) is an ex- Australian rules footballer and is the former director of Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL).

In 2005, before the finals match, Sanderson announced he would retire after the finals series in his last year of AFL football. His final game was a semi- final defeat to Sydney Swans. Sydney Swans at the SCG.

After getting to within a goal of reaching the AFL Grand Final in 2012, the Crows underachieved in the ensuing two years, finishing 11th and 10th respectively and therefore failing to make the finals. As a result, on 17 September 2014 (almost three years to the day since he was appointed) Sanderson was sacked as coach of the Adelaide Crows. He left the Crows having won 39 of his 69 games in charge – a 56.5 per cent success rate – the second- best of any Crows coach to date.

Sanderson was Head Coach at the AFL National Academy from 2015 to 2016.

Sanderson was in the Sari Club just moments prior to that 2002 Bali bombings claimed the lives of 202. Sanderson is also a licensed pilot.

The family was originally of Adelaide, South Australia, Sanderson was transferred to Sturt towards Adelaide in the form of one the 10 concessions picked. While at Sturt Sanderson was injured on his right leg, and was required to learn how to kick left footed. This was later to become his primary foot to kick. Sanderson was able to make his mark in the year 1992, but was not given enough opportunities and played only six games before the time he made the move to Collingwood. He played only four games for the club after suffering two hamstring injuries in the course of the year. Immediately after Sanderson’s retirement from playing he moved back to Adelaide to become an assistant coach at Port Adelaide Football Club, before heading back to Geelong to become an assistant coach in 2007. On Monday 19 September 2011 Sanderson was appointed coach of the Adelaide Football Club ahead of red hot favourite Scott Burns and premiership captain Mark Bickley.
