Del Carretto competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the women’s epee. However, she was defeated at the end of the round against the reigning Olympic Champion Britta Heidemann. Her poor performance at the World Cup, her best place being a quarter-final match in Havana which led to her dropping to No.27 in the world rankings. 2012-13 was a mediocre year despite her bronze medal at the Xuzhou Grand Prix. Del Carretto then transferred to C.S. Aeronautica Militare, with Andrea Candiani as the new coach and then transferred to Legnano in Italy to Milan.
In the season of 2010-11, Del Carretto won the Havana Grand Prix and earned an Olympic bronze medal in Nanjing. These results enabled her to end the year No.3 in the world rankings, a record in 2014, despite being eliminated in the second round of the World Championships in Catania by the hand by Ana Maria Branza, who ended up winning an Olympic bronze. In the team competition, Italy were stopped in the semi-finals by China and then defeated Germany in the final to take home the bronze medal.

Del Carretto learnt fencing at Club Scherma Rapallo under Roberto Cirillo. Her first major international win was a gold medal for the team at the 2002 Junior European Championships in Conegliano. The following year, she won bronze in the individual competition and silver for the event team at the Junior European Championships in Porec. In the same year, she also won the bronze medal for her team at the Senior European Championships in Bourges. 2004 was the year she was awarded with a silver medal at the Junior World Championships in Plovdiv after she was lost in the semifinal by the Romanian Ana Maria Branza.
In her professional career she was an effective team player and was a key contributor to Italy’s numerous podium places. In 2009, alongside Cristiana Cascioli, Nathalie Moellhausen and Francesca Quondamcarlo, she earned the first ever silver medal from Italy at the World Championships in Antalya. The following year she made her first podium at the Fencing World Cup with a third place at the Doha Grand Prix. She followed that with a bronze medal in Luxemburg.
During the 2013–14 season, Del Carretto dislocated her weapon shoulder during a training camp and stayed incapacitated for a month. She arrived with a No.44 ranking to the European Championships. She was seeded fourth out of pools and received a bye in the table of 32. She then defeated Poland’s Magdalena Piekarska, teammate Francesca Quondamcarlo, and World No.1 Emese Szász to reach the semi-finals. She disposed 15–13 of host France’s Joséphine Jacques- André-Coquin in the semi-final, then beat 15–12 another Frenchwoman, Marie- Florence Candassamy, to come away with Italy’s first European individual gold medal since Elisa Uga at Plovdiv in 1998. In the team event, Del Carretto’s Italy were overcome 24–29 in the semi-final by Romania, who eventually won the gold medal. Italy met 2013 European champions Estonia in the match for the third place and won 45–42.
