She has won 15 Norwegian Championships in total, representing Strindheim IL. In 1985, she took home the Morgenbladet gold medal. The daughter is Kristen Kvello.

Her most significant international achievement occurred during the 1982 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships where she was awarded gold medals in the 5 km 10 km, 5 km, and relays of 4 x 5 km races. She also won an award of silver at the classic 20km race. She was the first to win the formal Cross-Country World Cup after her overall win in the 1981 and 1982 FIS Cross-Country World Cup. In 1984, at the Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, she was awarded two medals: gold in the relay of 4 x 5 km and silver in the 5 kilometers. Aunli also took home silver medal in the 4x five km relay during the 1985 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. In 1981, at the Holmenkollen skiing festival in 1981, Aunli was the winner of the 20-kilometer event.
