Following the publication of his first novel, Dogwalker, in 2001, Bradford lived briefly in an uninhabited home located in The Northeast Kingdom where he wrote and published short stories about his experiences. Later, he relocated into Brooklyn, New York, to explore the art of film. In 2005, he was co- director of Camp Jabberwocky which is a camp for disabled people. In the camp, was the beginning of his How’s Your News? series with the help of South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker.
In 2014, Planthouse, Inc. published the limited edition artist book Forty- Three Monsters by Bradford and Chuck Webster. Bradford contributed a comic narrative to accompany Chuck Webster’s childhood monster drawings from the 1970s.
His short story collection has earned him his stories an O. Henry Award and have appeared with Esquire, McSweeneys, Zoetrope, Dazed & Confused, Tin House, and Vice. His debut book, Dogwalker (2001), is a collection of short stories that revolve around his travels of living in Austin as well as Vermont. The second novel, Benny’s Brigade (2012) tells the story of two girls who stumble upon the existence of a tiny talking walrus in the walnut. The illustrations were done with Lisa Hanawalt. Bradford was born in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, the son of the energy regulation Peter A. Bradford and painter Katherine Bradford. Bradford as well as his twin sister Laura Bradford grew up in Maine and New York City. Both went to Phillips Academy and Yale University which they graduated from in 1993. Following graduation, Bradford moved to Austin, Texas where he worked at The Texas School for the Blind and began writing short stories and creating short films. Bradford directed the very first How’s Your News? movie, which was a feature in which handicapped and disabled adults talk to unaware passers-by during the middle of the country, in 1999. The film was aired through HBO, PBS, and British channel, Channel 4. The idea was further developed and turned into a series for MTV and was broadcast through the year. Bradford was director and executive producer.
Bradford directed 6 Days to Air, a documentary that depicts the making of an episode of South Park, which premiered on Comedy Central on October 9, 2011. It was nominated for an Emmy award in the outstanding non-fiction special category.
